Adult Ministries

The Golden Oaks

The Golden Oaks, whose president is Iris Kolesar,
sees as itself  as a social mission within our church.  Golden Oaks is a group that invites retirees age 55 or older to be a part of their ministry. They meet at 11:30am on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The Golden Oaks are one of our most active groups in that they participate in cultural and social outings almost on a monthly basis!

Programs are monthly and feature luncheons which host guest speakers with information exclusively relating to topics pertinent to people who are of retirement age.

United Methodist Women

Our church is home to two United Methodist Women Circles. The definition of the UMW is as follows: “The organized unit of UNITED METHODIST WOMEN shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation
in the global ministries of the church.”

The United Methodist Men

Oak Grove’s UMM had a very busy year creatively restructuring traditional annual events to accommodate the new limited
space while in the building process. The UMM believes very strongly in Mission within the church as well as the surrounding community and embracing the world. This is shown through their involvement with fundraising, Habitat for Humanity, Paint Your Heart Out, as well as interaction with the Boy Scouts, Nest and many other missions. While most of these missions are not directly a part of the UMM, the Oak Grove UMM always become a part of the mission!

With an average monthly attendance of around 25 men the Oak Grove United Methodist Men continue to make contributions to the church and community as a result of the successful fundraising activities – Annual Barbeque, Annual Mulch Sale and Christmas card sale.

The Oak Grove United Methodist Men meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm for a dinner, program and fellowship. Social and mission activities are announced in the bulletins.

Small Groups

Oak Grove Adult Ministries offers a variety of Small Group opportunities and Sunday classes.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a caring, listening, non-professional
ministry. When someone is in need, or hurting, Stephen Ministers are there to hold a hand or be leaned upon.  They are there long after kind words and offers of help and hope have started to dwindle away.

Stephen Ministers are not professionals, but they do get a lot of training before being commissioned.   After being commissioned, they are  required to attend supervision meeting where they have further training twice a month. The most important quality of a Stephen Minister is that everything is kept completely confidential.  Stephen Ministries is a quiet, but strong Ministry.

Faith-Hope Circle UMW

The Faith-Hope Circle of Oak Grove’s UMW whose president is Miriam Johnson made cloth hats earlier this year to give to children in need through Park Place.  Members of this circle also “adopted” shut-ins and made visits, calls and sent cards to their “Personal shut-in”.

This circle meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am, upstairs in the education building.

Charity Circle UMW

Charity Circle believes in supporting the church wide missions. Often during the year time is spent at our meetings assembling conference kits, flood buckets, bedding kits and school kits.

Many of the members attend prayer breakfasts at various churches and other workshops during the year. Charity Circle meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 in room S-102. Barbara Bell is Charity Circles’ President.
